JobsOhio Update and Economic Impact Memo from JP Nauseef | August 21, 2020

Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, more than one million workers have been displaced in our state, and 2.1 million more are at risk. In addition, approximately 85% of displaced workers do not have a college degree. While jobs in the technology sector will continue to drive opportunity for Ohio workers, the state now faces the challenge of needing to quickly upskill displaced or vulnerable workers for new jobs. We are committed to doing everything in our ability to get these displaced Ohioans back to work!

JobsOhio Update and Economic Impact Memo from JP Nauseef | August 21, 2020

JobsOhio business and community stakeholders,

Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, more than one million workers have been displaced in our state, and 2.1 million more are at risk. In addition, approximately 85% of displaced workers do not have a college degree. While jobs in the technology sector will continue to drive opportunity for Ohio workers, the state now faces the challenge of needing to quickly upskill displaced or vulnerable workers for new jobs. We are committed to doing everything in our ability to get these displaced Ohioans back to work!

To that end, JobsOhio, working very closely with the DeWine/Husted Administration and stakeholders around Ohio, is preparing a pilot initiative to assist unemployed Ohioans in modernizing their skillsets and connecting with employers. In the coming weeks, we look forward to sharing more about this important topic.

As we focus on getting displaced Ohioans back to work, JobsOhio also continues to market our state to job seekers on the coasts who are looking for more livable communities for their careers, families and businesses. When people learn more about all that Ohio has to offer in terms of opportunities, affordability, entertainment, and culture, they can’t wait to start the search for their dream job. Connecting the right talent to the right opportunities is one of the most rewarding aspects of our ongoing mission.

Don’t forget to save the date for our board of directors meeting Friday, September 25 from 12:30-2 p.m.

JobsOhio’s Ohio Safe. Ohio Working page remains a resource for the business community throughout the pandemic. There, you’ll find our latest economic impact report.
