COMPENSATION: $15.00 per hour
PROBATION PERIOD: One (1) Year/365 Days
OFFICE LOCATION: 212 S. Main Street, New Lexington, Ohio 43764

HOURS OF OPERATION:
Available Shifts

  • Monday – Friday: 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Monday – Friday:6:30 AM – 3:00 PM

SUPERVISOR: Custodial Supervisor

Purpose

The County Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and general upkeep of county-owned buildings and facilities. This position ensures a safe, clean, and orderly environment for county employees, elected officials, and the public.

Responsibilities

The following duties are representative of the work performed but are not all-inclusive:

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, offices, meeting rooms, hallways, and public areas
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and buff floors
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles and properly dispose of waste
  • Clean windows, doors, fixtures, and furniture
  • Replenish restroom and cleaning supplies
  • Perform routine inspections of facilities to identify maintenance or safety issues
  • Set up and tear down rooms for meetings, public hearings, and county events
  • Follow established cleaning schedules and safety procedures
  • Properly use and maintain custodial equipment and cleaning chemicals
  • Report needed repairs, hazards, or supply shortages to supervisor
  • Assist with seasonal or special cleaning projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Prior custodial or facilities maintenance experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to pass background check and pre-employment screening
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of proper cleaning methods, supplies, and equipment
    • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
    • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
    • Attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety
    • Ability to interact professionally with staff and the public
    • Knowledge of workplace safety standards and procedures
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift up to [typically 50] pounds
    • Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers, and carts
    • Ability to work indoors and occasionally outdoors
  • Work Environment:
    • County buildings, offices, and public facilities
    • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and equipment
    • May require evening or weekend hours based on facility needs
