Job Description
The Deputy County Auditor will oversee and manage budgetary systems, payroll operations, and related financial activities for the County Auditor’s Office. This role ensures compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations while promoting efficiency and accuracy in financial management.
Deputy Auditor Responsibilities
- Budgetary Systems Management:
- Develop, maintain, and monitor the county’s budgetary systems and processes.
- Assist with preparing and submitting the annual audits in compliance with state and local regulations.
- Provide financial analysis, projections, and reports to support decision-making.
- Collaborate with department heads to align budget allocations with organizational goals.
- Payroll Administration:
- Oversee payroll operations to ensure timely and accurate processing of employee compensation.
- Maintain payroll records, including tax filings, deductions, and benefits.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies and address employee inquiries.
- Financial Reporting and Compliance:
- Prepare and present regular financial statements, reports, and audits as required.
- Ensure adherence to Ohio Revised Code and other applicable financial regulations.
- Collaborate with external auditors during financial audits.
- Supervision and Training:
- Supervise and train staff involved in budget and payroll functions.
- Delegate tasks effectively and provide ongoing support to ensure high performance.
- System Maintenance and Optimization:
- Implement and manage software systems related to payroll and budget management.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend solutions.
- Other Duties:
- Assist the County Auditor with special projects as needed.
- Stay updated on changes in financial regulations and best practices.
Deputy Auditor Qualifications
Any equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience may be considered, including but not limited to:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field required.
- CPA preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in budgeting, payroll, or financial management, preferably in the public sector.
- Supervisory experience is a plus.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of Ohio public financial laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff, officials, and the public.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
Compensation & Benefits
$22.00 – $30.00/hour – Based on Experience and Skill
