When finished, our courthouse will be used exclusively for the courts. The County Treasurer, Auditor, and Recorder will never return. We have moved those offices to 212 South Main St and created a County Administration Building. The rooms that once housed the Treasurer will become a shared courtroom for the magistrates from each of the three courts. You can see the safe- it is boxed in for protection. That thing is huge! It’s going to stay right there as a bit of history. The back wall you can see in the first 2 pics was removed. Those massive beams were brought in through a window and lifted into place. If you notice those Jack arches going in different directions- well, that little detail wasn’t known until the original ceilings were demo’ed. That meant the wall (to be removed) was holding more weight than originally assumed. The support beams had to be redesigned to be much larger. In an earlier post, I showed you a hole cut in the ground floor concrete that had broken clay under it, and the pole we placed to support two floors above it. This was the reason for all that work- to support that weight from the ground up…There was an incredible amount of shoring put in place as the wall was removed. The final beams are in place perfectly with no movement.
