The underside of the plywood sheathing in the attic will have spray on insulation. This will keep the moisture away from the plywood and, of course, provide an insulating factor. The original slate roof and attic were cold. As we put HVAC units in the attic, those units generate heat, and without the insulation, it will cause the roof to be warm. A warm roof will accumulate snow and ice. Insulation will keep a cold roof and hopefully not have a snow and ice buildup.
