Another Friday for facts no one knew about. These corner trim pieces above the square framed doors on the 1st & 2nd floors were not given much advance thought. Everyone saw it as another normal decorative wooden trim piece. However, in the restoration work and as we reconfigure a couple doorways, we discovered these trim pieces are made of 1/4-inch plate steel. In an age when meticulous woodwork was front and center in the construction of such public buildings, to find such a smoothly trimmed piece of steel (before plasma and laser cutting) gave everyone wonder.
