Getting a view of the back side of the tower clock faces inside the tower today. There are four clock faces (N/S/E/W) that are made of frosted glass. Most of the glass sections were cracked and broken. We are able to maintain the unbroken original glass on one clock face. The other faces will have new frosted glass. The steel numbers of the clock face were in good shape; they were cleaned and sealed. Backlighting will be in this area to illuminate the clock faces at night. The platform you see is 100% newly reconstructed. This elevation is where the clock mechanism sat, and it will return. It is the original clock to our courthouse. We have taken great strides to return it to the courthouse. That was always the plan. Very few county courthouses in Ohio still have their original mechanical clock. (More to come on the clock)
The new platform you see was desperately needed; there were a couple floor joist members broken on the original platform, and there was obvious movement when body weight was added. It made a rational person anticipate possible death when standing on it. It’s solid now! I’m eager to see the clock returned in place.
