April 9th, I posted the discovery of the tile hearths that were located in several rooms in our courthouse when we removed the numerous layers of floor coverings. They have been cleaned, literally reconstructed, and are now ready to be reinstalled. Originally, they were laid in place. To remove them for restoration, they were lifted one tile at a time, then reassembled in the CK shop. They now have a concrete backer board. This allows us to have them at the same elevation as the new carpet. There were 8 hearths originally; we were able to save and restore 6 hearths. We walked the courthouse yesterday to confirm the six preferred locations for reinstallation.
