Another example that craftsmanship skills still can be found in 2025. The newly built copper finials have arrived from Texas. Several were missing so maybe you forgot that they were even there. The large one is of course for the bell tower, while the smaller ones top the gable corners. The “scales of justice” finial sits at the center gable on the main street side. They are amazing replicas. Actually, our new finials are made of thicker copper and are easily double the weight of the originals. That detail is surprising to me, and opposite of what I normally notice when comparing something from the 19th century to a replica recreated in the 21st century. The weather vane topping the large finial is brass. They are very impressive pieces that will once again top our courthouse. Just as a precaution these pieces are heavily secured and safe while they wait for placement. The lift is on site, and you will notice some intermittent closure of Brown Street as we place these and take care of several other lofty details on the courthouse.
