Jack Arches. I don’t want to bore anyone with jack arch posts, but there is a lot going on regrading these. The black squares painted indicate holes that still need cut for utilities. Depending on the size and location of the hole in the arch, we need to build and install arched steel supports (pictured). Parge coating continues. Braces are welded in where arches are removed. Here is a bit of trivia. The direction of the arches vary. North/South, East/West, from floor to floor and room to room. The engineering minds tell me the most likely reason is to equalize the lateral pressure throughout the building. As we finish modifications, the arches will need tested. A survey crew will be brought in, exact elevations measured, and then 160lb/sqft is set on the arch for 24 hours. If the arch moves more than 0.5 inch…then there will be more work.
