New elevator. We need an elevator for ADA compliance, so we are indeed building a new elevator. It will be located on the NW corner of the clock tower. This location was determined as the most efficient for daily operations. You will notice the massive sandstone at the corner of the pit excavation. That is the base of the bell tower. That’s scary close. We conducted 4 weeks of soil investigation, borings, and strength testing before we even moved the probate/juvenile court staff out. We needed to be 100% sure that the bell tower would not move if we excavated the soil away from it. A bit stressful for me…but it didn’t move. It’s a massive excavated hole compared to the space they had to excavate for the original elevator. If you have ever heard some silly rumors of a tunnel under the courthouse and never believed it…then don’t look at those photos too closely.
