Ok- Election Day is over. Congratulations to the winners. We still have work to do on our courthouse.
I wanted to show you how we have to deal with those Jack arches that had to be removed. All of the bad arches are on the attic ceiling. We are not putting arches back in. We are putting a steel deck in place- it will be capped with about 4 inches of concrete. The entire floor of the attic will then be topped with about 2 inches of concrete to create an attic floor that is “usable”. The building needs the weight. With less weight, the bricks loosen a bit, that’s when they fall. You can see some angle welded to the I-beams. That is to prevent the beams from flexing laterally. If they flex from side to side, the bricks loosen and more would fall. It’s an engineering marvel to build and another one to repair.
