
If the sun shines on the new bird barrier you can see that it’s there. It should be more durable than the old stuff. (Close-up pics are the old barrier, which was just common hardware cloth.) The old stuff had maintenance challenges and believe it or not, when it failed, pigeons thought the bell tower was a good place to live! It was designed to be open to allow the sound of the bell to project.
Originally in 1887, there were no pigeon issues. The need for pigeon barrier came later.
