Perry County Dog Shelter

The Perry County Dog Shelter provides care for lost, stray, and surrendered dogs. The shelter also sells dog licenses, and has dogs available for adoption. It contains the office of the Perry County Dog Warden, who is responsible for enforcing Ohio’s dog laws.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does my dog need a license? 
Every dog in Ohio is required to be licensed.

Where can I get a dog license? 
Licenses can be purchased in person at the Perry County Dog Shelter, Perry County Auditor, or you can Purchase Dog Licenses Online at the Auditor’s website. During the months of December and January they can also be purchased at some area businesses. The list of locations will be posted at the Auditor’s website.

Can I buy or renew my dog’s license online?

When do I have to license my dog? 
All adult dogs must have a valid license before January 31 of each year, or within 30 days of obtaining a new dog.  All puppies must have a valid license before reaching 4 months of age.

How much does it cost to get a license for my dog?
One-year license:  16.00
Three-year license: 48.00
Permanent License: 160.00
Kennel License: 80.00

What if I am late getting a license for my dog? 
A fee of 16.00, or 80.00 for a kennel license, will be charged in the event that it is not obtained within the appropriate amount of time.

What is the adoption fee for dogs at the shelter, and what does that include? 
Adoption fees are 176.00 for adults, and 181.00 for puppies.  This fee includes basic vaccinations, flea/tick treatment, deworming, heartworm testing, spay/neuter, and microchipping.  Also included are a 1yr dog license, collar, leash, and a starter bag with food, toys, and treats.

Do I need an appointment to see dogs at the shelter? 
No appointment is needed, but we are occasionally out of the office.  If you plan to come in the afternoon you may wish to speak to staff, or leave a voicemail, so that we can plan for your arrival.

Can I view available dogs online? 
Our available dogs are listed on Wagtopia.com.

Does the shelter accept donations, and if so, what type of donations are needed?  
We gladly accept donations of items, as well as monetary donations.  Monetary donations can be made in person, you can also donate online or through clicking the donate button on our Wagtopia page.  Most frequently used items are bleach, dish soap, hot dogs, treats, paper towels, food, and large trash bags.  Other needed items are toys, leashes, collars, towels, and blankets.

What do I do if I find a stray dog?
Please call the shelter at (740) 342-3795 and leave a message if necessary.  Staff will respond to your call as soon as possible.  We are unable to take after-hours stray calls or pick-up requests.

Does your shelter take in animals other than dogs?
Unfortunately, we cannot accept surrenders of animals other than dogs at this location.
