Along with our partners, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Ohio Department Of Agriculture, Perry Soil & Water Conservation assists with developing and implementing conservation measures of public and private property.
We work with political subdivisions on conservation, planning and land use challenges. We host outdoor activities, educational events and nature activities at the Glenford Fort Preserve, Wilson Mound and the Gun Club along with our partners and provide an educational presence in local schools.
PCSWCD participates in the Ohio Farmland Preservation program as a local sponsor and in the H2Ohio program as technical advisors. We’ve partnered with private and public sector entities to develop the Upper Rush Creek Rediscovery Project as a vehicle to reclaim and reimagine abandoned mine lands as productive farm, forest, fishery and recreational opportunities.
Many of our programs are financially or grant-driven but we also provide technical assistance for landowners and producers regardless of other interests. Our conservation network crosses all government levels, accommodates academia and the private sector and is a great resource for the community.
A neighbors effluent is running into the road ditch in front of my house. What should I do?
Any issues with human waste should directed to the Perry County Health Department. PCSWCD handles agricultural waste and forestry complaints.
My pond is leaking and it is always shallower in the early fall. What can I do?
Each pond is different. Normally a site visit by our staff is recommended. There are lots of elements to good, sustainable ponds and visits can normally be arranged within 5-10 workdays.
I want to build a new house but my neighbor told me it might be in the floodplain. What should I do?
The Perry County EMA offices serve as the flood plain managers for the county. SWCD can do some preliminary discovery and make site visits and recommend possible solutions which may benefit you in the next steps forward.
